Montreal smoked meat, Calgary style

Myhre's Deli has given diners the full meat shop experience since it began slicing and serving in 2002. A long-time patron of Montreal's famous smoked meat eateries, proprietor Brad Myhre hoped to create a place where Calgarians could enjoy an authentic deli lunch — without the five-hour flight.

The deli's gleaming wooden walls and booths were inspired by Wilensky's, a Montreal landmark immortalized in Mordecai Richler's novel, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz. The mahogany paneling in Myhre's Deli, as well as some of the furniture and photographs, revive local history; Brad salvaged and restored these pieces from The Palace of Eats, a vintage lunch counter that served Calgarians on Stephen Avenue from 1918 – 1964.
